On Library Launches

Donations of books by local authors to be catalogued for the library collections are welcome too. It’s worth remembering that the shelf life for a book in a library is a lot longer than that of a bookshop. Word of mouth is a powerful tool and library patrons love to spread the word about books they’ve enjoyed. They clamour for extra copies for their book clubs; get impatient waiting for titles on hold and buy a copy instead; borrow an audiobook and then decide to purchase a hard copy. Readers love books!

All of this increases exposure and is beneficial if the author is registered with Public Lending Rights (https://publiclendingright.ca/ in Canada) which provides an extra trickle of income.

You don’t have to wait until your book is ready to make friends with your local library staff. Any library is a great place to write, find comp titles, meet other writers, check out cover designs and opening chapters, do research online and off, and visualize your novel on the shelf. The staff are welcoming and supportive and yes, most of them like cake.
